Proceedings On “Flame Retardant Home Textiles & Protective Clothing”

Based on expertise and technical capability, the Project Evaluation Committee constituted by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India under the chairmanship of Secretary (Textiles) for selection of Centres of Excellence has designated Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA) and Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi with NITRA as lead partner as Centre of Excellence for Protective Textiles.
The basic objective of setting up of Centre of Excellence for Protective Textiles is to provide infrastructure support comprising of following facilities at one place for the convenience of the manufacturers of protech segment of technical textiles.
1. Facilities for testing and evaluation of products of protective textiles: NITRA shall be providing testing facilities as per International Standards like, ASTM, BS, BIN, ISO, EN etc. for different products of protective textiles. The testing facilities shall cater to the requirement of testing the final product and also the fibre, yarn, fabrics and other elements that go into final product.
2. As a national and international accreditation centre for protective textiles: NITRA which already has ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation from NABL, shall also be getting accreditation from reputed international institutions so that test results are accepted in the international market.
3. A resources centre with I.T. infrastructure: NITRA shall have a resource centre with I.T. infrastructure which will be equipped with technical literature, reference material, books, specifications, directives and a sample bank containing samples of various products and information about production, technology, raw material, machinery, standards, testing procedures etc. for all the products of protective textiles. It will provide the information on all aspects of protective textiles such as technology, raw material, machinery suppliers, raw material suppliers, domestic & global demand, details of end users including project profiles to the potential investors. It will serve as knowledge and reference base for entrepreneurs and users of protective textiles.
An exclusive website for protech segment of the technical textiles will also be available which shall provide link to other relevant sites with information on technical textiles, particularly protech segment.
4. Facilities for training of core personnel: Considering the wide range of discipline in various fields of science and technology involved in protech segment of technical textiles, NITRA shall have facilities to offer training to textile technologists, academicians, scientists etc. from TRAs, institutes and industry to develop a set of core professionals (trainers) dedicated to activities related to protech segment of technical textiles. Subsequently these core personnel shall train the textile professionals in the country regularly so that there would be no dearth of trained manpower in the field of knowledge based technology of protech segment in the country. The core personnel for protective textiles shall be trained by inviting consultants from abroad and also sending the trainers abroad for training. The training shall encompass knowledge, technology, and end use applications. The COE shall take the overall responsibility of training of core personnel of the protech segment.
5. Facilities for regular training of personnel from the industry: NITRA shall have facilities for regular training of the technicians working in the industry in the different areas of protective textiles. NITRA shall also study the requirement of the training from the clusters of the protective textiles and shall set up satellite training facilities in such clusters to facilitate the technicians to attend the training programme.
