

Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA),
one of the four textile research Associations located in different parts of the country
was established in the year 1975 with the objective to carry out scientific
research in the field of textiles as well as to promote
and foster scientific research studies for the extension of knowledge
related to or connected with Textile Industry. NITRA
occupies an area of fifty acres out of
which thirty acres of land is earmarked for the cultivation of cotton.
NITRA is linked to the Ministry of Textiles and recognised by the Deptt. of
scientific and Industrial Research for
providing services to centralised as well as decentralised sectors.It enjoys Govt. of
India assistance through various projects.
NITRA is open Monday-Saturday (except II and IV Saturdays and all national
holidays) from 9.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.

R.C.Jain ,an eminent and successful industrialist and is the present Chairman of
Council of Administration NITRA for the year 2007-2008 under his guidance Dr. J.V.
Rao ,a dynamic researcher and successful
academician ,is the present Director of NITRA.
NITRA Campus comprises of thirteen technical divisions :
1. Chemical Quality Assurance
2. Mechanical Processing (Wvg.&Knitting)
3. Mechanical Processing (Spinning)
4. Polymer and Technical Textiles
5. Physics and Quality Evaluation
6. Environmental Engineering
7. Human Resource Development
8. Operation Research
9. Engineering & Instrumentation
10. Research & Product Development
11. Software Development Center
12. Garment Cetrer
13. Customer Service Promotion Cell
In addition to the above mentioned divisions
NITRA campus also comprises of Chemical,Environmental, Physical and Quality
Evaluation ,Polymer and Eco-laboratories and a Pilot Plant. Computer Aided Design(CAD)
System centre is also very recently opened in NITRA.It also has a computerised library
information centre with internet facility to back the R&D
activities.
NITRA is rendering services to centralised sector through various R&D
projects,Consultancies ,Training Programmes, Publications. Services include the
areas such as Energy Audit,Manpower studies, Pollution Control, Machine and
Design Development,Designing of Effluent Treatment Plants,Software
Development. Besides, NITRA helps the industry in solving
their operational problems. NITRA is also
rendering services to the decentralised
sector through eight Powerloom Service Centres established by the Ministry of Textiles
,Govt. of India in the Northern Region under administrative control of Director NITRA.
Seven Powerloom Service Centres located at various places in Northern Region are given
as under:
1. Tanda (U.P)
2. Gorakhpur (U.P.)
3. Kanpur (U.P)
4. Meerut (U.P)
5. Panipat (Haryana)
6. Ludhiana (Punjab)
7. Bhilwara (Rajasthan)
Activities of these centres are given as under:
a. Training for Jobbers ,Weavers ,
Supervisors and Entrepreneurs
b. Design Developement
c. Fabric Analysis
d. Count, Strength, CSP of Yarn
e. T.P.I of yarn and fabric strength testing.
Provide consultancy to decentralised units to solve their day to day problem.
Apart from above mentioned facilities ,these NITRA powerloom Service Centres coordinate
the developmental activities of Powerloom industry with State Govt.and also collect and
compile statistical information on Powerloom industry.
